From Bliss to Reality

Having spent 10 days in Tunisia having a wonderful time away from reality it was depressing to return back to the news.

The world is a much sadder place and ordinary people suffering due to the elites stupidity.

Two Britons among dead in Iraq as constitution deadline looms

Car bomber hits Iraqi police patrol

Iraq fires top Sunni official

so Mr Bush and Blair how is Iraq any better? Seems to me it remains a clusterfuck of misery and death.

Meanwhile in Bush's friends country....

Execution Looms for Mother of Three ~ freedom on the march eh Bush'n'Blair!

If western leaders want to stop the source of 'terraism' their target should be Saudi Arabia. Its all very well chucking foreign students out of the Pakistani madrases but it is the Saudis who fund them, go after Saudi and your half way there. Invading Iraq was a stupid mistake of which Bush and Blair are unable to see the consquences of their actions, they event let Bin Laden slip through their fingers at Tora Bora through sheer incomptence. It only furthers strengthens the hand of 'terrarists', we are creating problems for our future. Its history repeating itself, Bin Laden and his bunch of not so merry men are a product of Cold War policy, who recived much of their traning in Afghanistan fighting against the Russians with western backing especially from the CIA, granted Iraq is not totally the same but certain elements are repeating itself.

The whole idea of preventive war is stupid as well. Its a case of 'I will decided to burgle your house in case you burgle mine'.

Since this is the land of realpolitiks Saudi remains untouched due to her oil so nothing will change same goes for the various central Asian despots.

Bush and Blair are a classic example of imperial hubris and would be well advised to study the case of Croesus of Lydia who in a fit of hubris thought he could defeat Cyrus the Great of Persia, instead he destoryed his own empire.

The Ancient Greeks were great believers in Hubris and Nemesis

In the Greek tragedies Nemesis appears chiefly as the avenger of crime and the punisher of hubris

REM Concert

Went to see REM last night and they were simply amazing. You can't beat seeing a live band thats for sure.

REM dedicated their song 'Everybody Hurts' to the London blast victims which was really thoughtful. They truly love their fans. They did peform an anti Bush adminstration song which was really good.

The Zutons were excellent also, a truly great band.

Idlewild were quite poor, their set did not go with the whole mood of the concert, plus their amps were up too high so it sounded like static noise.

Jonathan Rice was calming, had some nice tunes.

A Very Sad Day Indeed

37 dead in London blasts

London explosions 'mirror Madrid bombings'

Implications of London Bombing

Statement of Qaeda al-Jihad in Europe

I am angry, sad and fed up at the same time. Bush and Blair claim they are 'defeating terorrism' when something as horrific as this happens, it makes me that little bit more cynical. Instead of going after the guys responible, they go galavanting around Iraq.

Its all rehtoric and very little action. The terrorist scum are allowed to get away with their crap time and time again.

I hope Blair does not use this tragedy to beging to restrict our liberties either.

Iraq proved a clusterfuck and has made the world that much more dangerous. When Bush used the term 'flypaper' with refrence to Iraq I could not believe it. Its smells faintly of imperalist/neo colonialism tones. Bush and Blair are using Iraq as a mean to an end - try defending that you wingnuts! I am digusted by that. It is morally wrong and it harms people.

Bush is terribly confused I thought he wanted to bring democracy to Iraq instead he says Iraq is a flypaper. You can't have a democratic governement while your country is being used as a battleground.

Interactive Map of Iraq Fatalities

I don't think the Iraqis would be happy for their country to be used as flypaper.

The bombing today proves Bush's flypaper strategy is bullshit.

On this sad day I refer you to an excellent link (with kudos to Eschaton)

U.S. reports major increase in worldwide terrorism

On a much lighter note Bush crashed into a Scottish Bobby while bike riding at Gleneagles.

Bush runs his county like he rides his bike.

update: London bombings toll rises to 38, 700 injured

Police clash with G8 protesters

Wrangling goes on as leaders gather

Will the G8 acheive anything? That is the million pound question.

It will probaly be a lot of hot air, handshakes and smiling faces for the masses but nothing will really change. The G8 have too much to lose to allow developing nations a seat at the trade table. Their sponsers Big Business can't have that, profit is king!

The whole idea of 'Free Trade' is a myth anyways, we mainly have cartles and monopolies and subsidies. To have a truly free market and fair trade would invovle giving up the government teat. The symbosis between Big Government and Big Business is doing much harm. Without one the other will collapse.

Iraq insurgency forces Pentagon rethink on ability to fight two wars at once

Any empire that can't fight two fronts at once is finished. It contributed to the decline of the British and Roman Empires and if the American Empire is not careful it will head the same way as well.

He is the belle of the ball!

Face Time

If you say work 7 days a week, for the first couple of weeks you get extra production but after that production drops off because you are tired.

My father semi retired from working for Hotchief UK 4 years ago,, he was Company Secretary/Director but he was trained as a quantity surveyor .

He now only works 3 days a week as a freelance quantity surveyor, pays as well as his old job but no stress and it allows him to take more holidays, my father goes abroad 4 times a year mainly skiing and walking.

In Britain we have 20 days paid holidays a year by law. Plus bank holidays.

Europe benefitted from a large scale workers movement.

Live 8

'We don't want charity, what we want is justice'

G8 will not end poverty, warns Brown

Gorgeous George, Lord Bob and Bolivia

I hope Live 8 will do some good and I'm sure it will but unless we are prepared to make drastic changes to how we live I don't see how we can solve the crisis we are facing today.

Its all very well throwing money about but do we stick around to see how it is spent?
Is Africa the only country that needs our help? Why is there no big concerts to raise awareness over Womens issues or maybe the arms trade? Or are these too thorny issues!

I'm not trying to put Live 8 down I just think we need to find long term solutions and not ignore other concerns.
