Current Affairs

2005 was the year of the natural disasters

The year Latin America swung to the left

The year Bush remained in power for a second term in office, the year of Republican scandals.

This was also the year London suffered a terrorist attack and won the Olympic bid.

Palestine elected a new leader after the death of Yasser Arafat.

Iraq had 2 elections and a ongoing insurgency.

this was the year torture suddenly became acceptable, the year the British government tried to lock people up without trial for 90 days (and failed).

We also saw Iran trying to develope nuclear power and drawing much hostility and suspicion from the international community.

We also saw the death of one Pope (John-Paul II) and the election of a new one (Benedict XVI).

This was the year Africa was in the spotlight with the G8 summit and the Live 8 concerts.

----------------------------------------------------------------

It is an old cliched saying but we are living in interesting times, whether next year will be even more eventful we shall see.

Happy New Year

Tony Blair & Jack Straw - Liars

British torture memos

Call for MI6 'abduction' inquiry

Claims that an MI6 officer took part in the abduction and torture of 28 Pakistani terror suspects in Greece must be investigated, Lib Dems say.

Foreign affairs spokesman Sir Menzies Campbell called for an intelligence and security committee (ISC) inquiry.

A Greek newspaper has published the names of 15 Greek agents and one MI6 operative it says were involved.

The British government it seems has lied about MI6 invovlement in abductions and torture and now they have slapped a gagging order on the press to stop them revealing the name of the MI6 chief and station master who organised this whole operation.

Beside this the British government is also trying to censor Craig Murray, the former UK ambassdor to Uzbekistan, who has been trying to reveal their involvement in the gathering of infomation from suspects by sending them to Uzbekistan to suffer torture in order to extract infomation.

This is not suprising considering NuLab are more close to the Neocon ideology, whose natural reflex is command and control.

US senators seek probe into spying

Bush has really put his foot in his mouth this time, the fact he has admitted that he supports domestic spying is sure to piss off the right wing even more than the left. The left always suspected they would be spid upon but the right wing believe in 'small government' and 'freedom and individuality' and will resent the ever expanding central government not to mention the fact that the conservatives are busy breaking the law and so spying would not do them any good either.

Religious parties deal blow to US hopes for Iraq

· Bush favourite trails as Shias dominate poll
· Kurds may get more seats than larger Sunni blocks

Sunni leaders say Iraq vote was rigged; further violence feared

Iraq Elections: What's Changed?

The only ones who are overjoyed by this election are Iran. Bush and his pool boy Blair have wasted 2358 lives in total establishing a Shia theocracy, thats quite an achievement for PNAC!

Clusterfuck

Bombers hit Iraq police school

Iraq bombers kill 43 at police academy

So how many "corners" has Iraq turned by now? The insurgency's "last throes" have lasted an awfully long time.

Human rights group to sue CIA

Amazing an innocent German citizen was captured and locked up and tortured with no explaniation and yet a memeber of the Bush Junta thinks they have the right to lecture in Germany about "human rights", "international law" and "torture". The Bush Junta lost the moral high ground when they started torturing detaniees at the Gitmo Gulag and then using renditions to send them off to non-western countries with poor human rights records in order to oursource the torture and avoid Internatioal Laws.

Torture will never be acceptable, you can create new terms and try and make excuses but it is still wrong, you become as bad as the person you are fighting agains, shame on those who support tortue.

Its an utter load of bollocks that torture has according to Condi "saved european lives", all torture does is destory lives and even the infomation provided cannot always be realiable, the detaniee being tortured could make up anything in order to the stop the pain.

Frankly if the Bush Junta is going to torture people in order to save European lives, all I can say is No Thanks. It is morally and ethically wrong and nothing can ever justify it.

I am angry that my government chose to be part of a morally bakrupt Bush Junta.
