Current Affairs
2005 was the year of the natural disasters
The year Latin America swung to the left
The year Bush remained in power for a second term in office, the year of Republican scandals.
This was also the year London suffered a terrorist attack and won the Olympic bid.
Palestine elected a new leader after the death of Yasser Arafat.
Iraq had 2 elections and a ongoing insurgency.
this was the year torture suddenly became acceptable, the year the British government tried to lock people up without trial for 90 days (and failed).
We also saw Iran trying to develope nuclear power and drawing much hostility and suspicion from the international community.
We also saw the death of one Pope (John-Paul II) and the election of a new one (Benedict XVI).
This was the year Africa was in the spotlight with the G8 summit and the Live 8 concerts.
----------------------------------------------------------------
It is an old cliched saying but we are living in interesting times, whether next year will be even more eventful we shall see.
Happy New Year
