Devizes Chamber Choir Summer Concert
Here is the summer concert programme in full
The theme of the summer concert is a double Diamond Jubliee, Queen Victoria's and of course Queen Elizabeth II's. So our choir and music director has selected pieces which are linked to these two eras.
First Half Programme - Victoria
Zadok The Priest (Victoria's coronation)
Food, Glorious Food (from Oliver!) - Brings in Charles Dickens (iconic figure of the age); also symbolise the poverty and social inequity of the age
Mechanisation (Nelson) Industrial revolution
Felix Mendelssohn: Verleih' uns Frieden
Gilbert and Sullivan: epitomises late Victorian period; political satire of the time
'A Nice Dilemma' from Trial by Jury
'Try We Life Long' from The Gondoliers
'When I Was A Lad' from HMS Pinafore
Long Day Closes by Henry Fothergill Chorley and Arthur Sullivan (death of Victoria)
Second half programme - Elizabeth II
Rock Around the Clock - Rock and Roll era
The Beatles in Revue - 60s Key British group
Also Sprach Zarathustra?? dawn of the space age organ solo
Money, Money, Money (ABBA) - economic growth of 70s/80s
Bohemian Rhapsody - "Queen" - 1980s - another key British pop group
Drop Drop Slow Tears
Land of Hope and Glory
God Save the Queen
Pretty elective summer concert programme but so far has been fun to learn.
The Summer Concert is being held on the 21st July at the Church St Mary the Virgin, Bishop's Cannings
